Welcome to the St. George Co-Op Nursery School!

For 40 years, families from the St. George and surrounding area have worked together to keep our school going strong. We create a unique and enriching preschool environment for our children (aged 27 months to 5 years) with benefits extending to our families and our community.

A Co-operative program provides an opportunity for parents to be directly involved in their child’s experience, helping them develop socially, academically, and emotionally; in the company of their peers, and under the tutelage of an E.C.E. qualified teacher. This is not a day-care or a babysitting service. Membership in the co-op requires participation, commitment and flexibility from all families enrolled. What your child and you take out of Co-op is a direct reflection of what we all put in.

Philosophy and Program

Our philosophy is to encourage our children’s social, emotional, and intellectual growth in a safe, secure learning environment. We achieve this through a structured program of guided play, supervised by our teacher (1:8 ratio) and duty-parents (1:4).

Our teacher is responsible for organizing and implementing an age and developmentally appropriate curriculum. Each session’s lesson, activities, and free-play are presented in a context of self-discovery.
Children and their classmates learn through play, choosing from a variety of pursuits including a sand table, water table, building blocks, arts & crafts, dramatic play accessories, puzzles, play dough, and a variety of gross motor activities.

During the more formal portion of group learning, the focus is on language (Jolly Phonics) and mathematics, as presented through stories, music and games.
