About the St. George Co-Op Preschool
We are the St. George Co-op Preschool, both a non-profit organization and a registered
charity. St. George Co-op Preschool has been providing preschool education to the
children of St. George and surrounding area since 1973.
Sending your child to school for the first time can be a frightening experience,
many times more so for the parent than the child. You’ve been there for their first
steps and their first words. Wouldn’t you like to be an integral part of their first
school experience? Co-operative education provides parents the opportunity to be
in the classroom for their child’s first school experience.
There are a multitude of benefits that stem from co-operative education. A small
teacher to student ratio (1:8) allows students to receive more individualized attention.
As parents take part in two duty days a month (taking part in helping the teacher
run the class) they gain hands-on knowledge of what and how their children are learning.
During this time parents also have the opportunity to learn different ways to support
their child’s learning and to encourage success for their child.
Participating in the co-op learning experience gives parents the opportunity to
meet other parents, and children, at the same stage of learning. This can lead to
fulfilling relationships for children and parents. Parents also have the opportunity
to share parenting tips and share their concerns with other parents in a safe environment.
